Mr. Smith explained that one of the chores he has been involved with is making sure contracts are signed with organizations that supply officials for all sports. With practice for fall sports starting this week and next, there hasn’t been much time for on-the-job training.
One job he inherited when he took the position was trying to find a solution to the problems at the high school track. For the past two years Rappahannock hasn’t been able to host track meets. In the spring of 1988 that was expected because of the construction of the high school addition. Large trailers were parked behind the school, and a trip to the track involved scrambling over building materials, but the track was supposed to be ready for the 1989 season.
