In the last eight years, Aug. 7 has seen an average nightime temperature in the 60 degrees with daytime temperatures pushing up toward 95 degrees or higher.
According to Mr. Wingfield’s records, the first 18 days of August 1988 were blistering hot, with days in the 90’s or 100’s with the exception of one, which reached only 88 degrees.
“Monday’s high temperature was only 70 degrees,” Mr. Wingfield added.
He said his local records show that so far this summer—the months of June, July and August—days are 10 degrees colder and nights are an estimated seven and one half degrees cooler.
He also recorded that from June 1 to date (Aug. 8), Rappahannock has been rained on 31 days, compared to last year’s 24.
“And this is counting the smallest amount.” he added.
