The addition, he estimated, figures to between five and seven cents on the county’s tax rate this year. “All of the cost is on this year’s tax bills,” Mr. McCarthy said. “But what that doesn’t show is the 50 percent reimbursement from the state” — which will not be credited until the 1990-91 fiscal year.
Of Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Godwin said, “he never misrepresented me. The contract was never offered on a long-term basis,” and he would not be willing to do it that way. “Who can guarantee,” he asked, that a restaurant will be around in three, five or ten years?
And to Mr. Wickens and Mrs. Miller, he added, “I understand they think they have a legitimate complaint. But they weren’t concerned about me getting the contract before the addition was approved. But the day after, then they want to talk to me.”
Whether the addition is built or not, Mr. Godwin said, “that’s not my concern. I just want the contract.”
