ing used. For example, a standard 8foot bed truck can hold half a cord of wood. A person using such a truck would be issued two tags with his $5 permit. People with smaller trucks would receive more tags per cord. Each tag, good for one load, must be dated on the day of use and carried on the truck’s dashboard.
“People hauling fuelwood from the National Forest without a properly dated tag are subject to the issuances of a criminal violation notice and possible fine,” Kelley said.
The fuelwood permits are for sale at the district offices in Staunton, Bridgewater, Hot Springs, Edinburg, Buena Vista and Covington. Fuelwood permits are not available in the supervisor’s office in Harrisonburg.
