These rules hold for pesticides | also, but there are other points one ; must consider when dealing with these chemicals. To some, just the mention of the word “pesticide” can ; cause an emotional flap and you as an applicator may be under your neighbor’s suspicious eye. For this reason and from just common sense, extreme care must be taken not only in their use, but in their storage and disposal as well. If stored or disposed of improperly, they can cause great inconvenience, especially if they affect our health and environ| ment.

It can not be over-emphasized that most pesticides are poisonous and should be kept locked-up and out of reach of children, pets and others. These chemicals should nto be stored just any place with just any old thing. All too often they are stored with food supplies, in an old tool shed, or left near a living area. Also, it is important not to store herbicides where they may come in contact with other garden chemicals. When applied to desirable plants, contaminated materials could cause severe damage.

Before putting your chemicals away for the season, make sure that , Mthe labels are intact and legible. Repair any tom or leaking containers ~ or if possible use the chemicals from these containers during the season so you don’t have to store them until next year. Never transfer a chemical from its original container into another container for storage or use. This is especially true if the new con‘ tainer is an old food container such as a soda bottle, oatmeal box, coffee can, etc. Unless it is an extreme I case, you are better off placing the , original container in a plastic bag and sealing it up until needed. This may not be practical for liquids and if ! they must be transferred, make sure
