Ki Theatre, an interdisciplinary theatre company that has primarily toured its work in the past is creating a permanent arts center, Ki Arts Center, at the historic Town Hall in Washington, Virginia. ,
Ki Theatre is supported by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and has recently hired a part-time staff person, Lauren Marra, a resident of Rappahannock County, as Arts Manager.
Julie Portman, the artistic director of Ki Theatre is an Obie awardwinning theatre artist who has extensive experience in training and performing, is offering several workshops beginning in November on voice and storytelling. These workshops are for people of all ages and backgrounds who want to explore their voices or learn about the art of storytelling from a professional artist.
The duo Julie Portman and Paul Reisler will perform on Dec. 1 at 7:30 at the Town Hall, their new work, “Paths to the Edge,” an intriguing blend of live music, dance, and acting coupled with the direct power and appeal of stories. The stories and their characters unfold in a rich environment of music created with hammer dulcimer, synthesizer, guitar, bass and percussion.
