“There is certainly a mood, but I don’t detect that the feeling has rubbed off. People are able to discern the difference.”
As for Mr. Smith’s campaign, Mr. Goolrick said that during the last week he has found a backlash of reaction to his “totally negative campaign.
“Instead of emphasizing whatever attributes he has, he has distorted and misrepresented Congressman Slaughter’s record .. . We would much rather he state his positions as the Congressman has stated his philosophy: a conservative who cares for people.”
As for Mr. Smith, Mr. Goolrick said, “we don’t really know. He has been fuzzy — but we sUspect he is another tax and spend Democrat.”
