A fire early Monday morning left the Douglas Mills family homeless after destroying their home in Old Hollow.
According to Greg Way land, chief of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department, the fire is believed to have started in the chimney flue which vented a woodstove.
Chief Wayland speculated that the flue liner may have cracked, allowing sparks to get into the wall around the chimney, where they smouldered and finally burst into flames.
