Cut a 5-6 pound pumpkin in half crosswise; remove seeds, and set aside. Peel and cut into 1-inch cubes; place in a shallow 2-quart dish. Cover tightly with heavy-duty plastic wrap; fold back a small edge of wrap to allow steam to escape.
