Empty pesticide containers should be either burned or thrown, away with the trash. Before doing so one must determine their contents and the type of container. Containers designed to hold liquids should be rinsed with a small quantity of water and the rinse water should be poured into the spray tank during use. This should be repeated three times allowing the container to drain for at least 30 seconds after each rinse.
Containers designed to hold dry formulations should be burned, one at a time, in a location where the smoke can not reach desirable plants, people and animals. In many cases this may be impossible and if so they should be thrown away following the EPA procedures below for bags of chemicals.
