interrupted to make house calls. At “The Moon”, their country place without a telephone, he enjoyed tending his apple trees.
He liked fishing and he kept a couple of bird dogs for hunting.
“Everybody kept bird dogs in those days,” Mary Snead said. She told of one time Dr. Snead and her brother were bird hunting, and a dropped cigarette set the sedge on fire. “They tried to smother the fire with their field jackets,” she said. “But, of course, their jackets were full of unexploded shells which started going off like fireworks.”
Both Mrs. Lindsey and her brother John report that they had advantages growing up in the house of a country doctor with his offices downstairs.
“Of course he was out of the house at all hours of the day and night, but still we were closer than a lot of kids are with their fathers,” John Snead said. They agree also that growing up in that house they knew many more people in the county than most children do and they felt a part of the entire community.
