“Coupled with our legislative efforts in shaping this pledge,” Sen. Stolle said, “are the hopes and concerns of thousands of Virginians as they voiced them...this summer and fall.”
“It [the contract] tells Virginians what Republican control of the legislature will meant for them,” he said, adding that part of the plan includes abandoning the status quo. ’
Showing their support for the Contract With Virginia, Gov. George Allen and Attorney General James S. Gilmore III said the contract offers unity and accountability to the Republican Party and its candidates for the General Assembly.
Gov. Allen also commended Republicans for their attempts to put Virginians first, giving them opportunities for prosperity.
“This is a group that is going to work with our administration for honest change,” he said, contending that Republicans offer dynamic leadership for Virginia.
Delegate Jay Katzen, RWarrenton, Sjaid he thinks the signing of the pledge promotes unity within the Republican Party:
“Voters of Virginia can T>e absolutely sure that the new Republican majority will deliver on these promises,” he said.
