When Deputy Compton arrived at Mr. Jordan’s house, she said that he had a gash to the back of the head and was bleeding. She then went to the office of the magistrate and obtained two warrants against Mr. Jones and called him to come in to the office, which he did.
Mr. Jordan testified that Mr. Jones came to his house with his rifle and struck him in the head and then in the stomach when he was down on the ground. Mr. Baumgardner argued that in the preliminary hearing for this case Mr. Jordan said that he had a hard time remembering what had really happened.
Lori Rooker, a friend of Mr. Jordan's, testified that she saw Mr. Jones hit Mr. Jordan with the gun. She tried to hit Mr. Jones with a rake but missed. She said that she heard Mr. Jones say he would kill Mr. Jordan the next time; the next three witnesses, Woodrow Nicholson, Tina Lucas, and Jennifer Mowry, also testified that they heard Mr. Jones threaten Mr. Jordan.
Miss Lucas also testified that on July 4 Mr. Jones approached her and told her that if she would go to Peter Luke and change her testimony (she had testified at the preliminary hearing), that he would make it worth her while.
