Free: A product has virtually none of a nutrient. It is used in combination with: calorie, sugar, sodium, salt, fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol.
Low: A product has a low enough amount of a nutrient to allow frequent intake without concern about going over dietary recommendations. It is used in combination with: sodium, calorie, fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol.
• low sodium: no more than 140 mg sodium per standardized serving size.
• low calorie: no more than 40 calories per standardized serving size.
• low fat: no more than 3 g fat per standardized serving size.
• low saturated fat: no more than saturated fat per standardized serving size.
• low cholesterol: no more than 20 mg cholesterol per standardized serving size.
Very Low: Refers to sodium only. A product has not more than 35 mg per standardized serving size.
