The Amissville Homemakers will meet-at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22 at Amissville Baptist Church. The public is invited. The topic will be “Christmas Decorations” by Charlotte Laing. ■ The Amissville Health and Fitness Support Group is continuing its study of the “Leaves from the Tree of Life” manual by Hartland Institute of Health and Education. ■ Last week’s discussion was on “Protein.” Amino acids which make up proteins are readily available in whole, unrefined, foods. I’m sure you have heard recent media reports on the value of soybeans. In addition to being a great anti-cancer food, studies show that the whole soybean protein would be adequate event if it were the only source of protein in the diet. Soybeans have over 29 percent of total calories as protein calories. . Other great sources of protein include broccoli with 27.5 percent and kale with 26.8 percent. Snap Beans have 14.5 percent and tomatoes 12.3 percent. Oranges and brown rice have 7 percent'.
