Mental health professionals from Rappahannock Family Guidance Services will offer local residents the opportunity to learn about the signs and symptoms of depression and to participate in a free screening as part of National Depression Screening Day, Thursday, Oct. 5. The free program will be held from 11:30 a m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock Family Guidance offices in Washington.

Participants at the Rappahannock Family Guidance Services Depression Screening will hear a brief talk on the causes, symptoms, and treatments of depression. Individuals will complete an anonymous -written screening test of depression symptoms and have the opportunity to discuss the results with a mental health professional.
Depression strikes more than 15 million Americans each year, according to figures from the National Institute of Mental Health.
