Explained
To the Editor:
Because of the numerous questions about my absence, I feel the need to explain why 1 was not present at the Political Forum sponsored by the Amissville Ruritan Club on the evening on Sept. 21.
My invitation to participate in the forum came via a telephone call from the Ruritan’s Program Chairman 30 minutes before it was scheduled to begin. He indicated that most of the local candidates were going to be there, and that we would be able to make a short speech followed by questions from the audience. He also said that somehow the had forgotten to contact me and incumbent supervisor Ellis Bingham.
Needless to say I was quite surprised by this last minute approach and explained to the chairman that I would not be able to attend because I had already made plans to take my six-year-old son to sign-up for Cub Scouts at the elementary school. I assumed, under the circumstances, that the chairman would pass this information on to the audience. He didn’t.
The Ruritan Organization is an important group in our community, and I am sorry I was not able to speak to them and their guests.
For those who are interested in hearing from all the candidates for School Board, there will be a forum on the evening of Oct. 24 at the RCHS auditorium. 1 will be present.
