Last Friday in Rappahannock County Circuit Court, a jury of ten men anthtwo women found Howard Clayton lopes, 43, of Flint Hill, guilty of brandishing a Firearm.
THe,jur$' deliberated for nearly three hours after hearing testimony all day. Besides the misdemeanor brandishing charge, Mr. Jones was on trial for two felonies for which he was found not guilty: malicious wounding and attempting to use a firearm or display such a weapon in a threatening manner, while committing or attempting to commit malicious wounding. The jury decided not to give Mr. Jones any jail time, but they fined him $1,000 and he must pay court costs. The cost of the jury, however, is borne by the Commonwealth.
