—1 Patients undergoing chemotherapy for cancer will have fewer probities to consider now the H^matology/Oncology Department at Culpeper Memorial Hospital opened *n-early September. For treatment these patients have been traveling to Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, and other cities, but now many services will be available in Culpeper.
“We are very pleased to be able to provide this advanced care through cooperation with fine physicians from thje University of Virginia Health Sciences Center and Martha Jefferson Hbspital,” said William A. Gravely, Jf.,'FACHE, president of Culpeper Memorial Hospital. “We hope it will eimmiate a burden for these patients and1give them a choice. ■; “This cooperative program is evidence of efforts to coordinate the delivery of health care services in our region and is a result of ongoing diaIdgue with representatives of the llniversity of Martha Jefferson.”
The Culpeper Memorial Hospital Hematology/Oncology Department will provide outpatient chemotherapy and treatment for many types of cancer, including breast, lung and colon cancer and lymphoma, and blood disorders such as anemia. In addition to chemotherapy, the infusion center will provide blood transfusions, blood drawing for laboratory tests, IV hydration, and administration of antibiotics. * - “As a National Cancer Institutedesignated cancer center, we will be &ble to bring to the Culpeper cancer program some of the most effective )and contemporary therapies that are ivailable in the country,” said ^Christopher Bowden, M.D., UVa ^ohc&logist. “Through this department, 'patients also have access to other can'jcer specialists and to cooperative clinHcal trials and investigative therapies ^available at the University of Virginia 0-lealfh Sciences Center.” •_-< .•
