“Our outreach efforts are geared to reduce the impact these diseases have on our patients by offering state of the art cancer care services in the familiar environment of their community hospital. This close cooperation of Culpeper Memorial Hospital and Martha Jefferson Hospital brings together the impressive medical resources of the hospitals to benefit our patients,” said Christopher Zazakos, Jr., M.D.
“Our patients also have the option, when appropriate, of participating in national and international investigative treatment protocols through the National Surgical Adjunct Breast and Bowel Project and the Cancer and Leukemia Group at the University of North Carolina and the Gynecologic Oncology Group at the University of Virginia.”
“It is a benefit to our community to have oncology services in Culpeper,” said George Stergis, M.D., Culpeper neurologist who is the medical staff liason for the program. “We are fortunate to have such an experienced staff of physicians and nurses in this department.”
Oncologists, physicians who specialize in cancer and hematology, will direct the care of patients in the department. The oncologists from the University of Virginia will see patients on Monday afternoons. Oncologists will also provide in-hospital consuftation services.
Under the supervision of Eloise Looney, RN, CNR, clinical director of the surgical suite, the department will be staff by Jonita Kilby, RN, BSN, and DeeDee Stergis, RN, OCN. Treatments will be given three days a week by Culpeper Memorial Hospital nurses.
