That is ensemble director Beth i Levick’s description of music to be performed by The Rappahannock Quintet at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Ki Theatre.
“We’ve been playing together for a year or so,” Ms. Levick explains, “but this will be our first local performance open to the public.” She said that nearly all of their music is composed by members of the group, and all of them are looking forward to presenting it in a local forum.
The quintet’s musicians play an unusual combination of instruments: harp, flute, violin, cello and hammered dulcimer. Beth Levick’s singing accompanies many of the original pieces.
She teaches music at Spring Mountain School and offers private voice and piano lessons, and is director of a capella singing groups, “The Eclectics.”
Kathy Tester of Spenyville plays flute. She is best known locally as the organist at St. Peter’s Church. Her husband Scott plays violin, and is the orchestra and chorus teacher at Warrenton Middle School.
Judy Engen of Culpeper is the quintet’s cellist. She has played with ensembles and orchestras in Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Virginia.
