Fauquier Hospital’s clinical laboratory is another department that utilizes high technology for diagnostic purposes. It is staffed around the clock to provide physicians with quick and comprehensive laboratory testing. Using computerized analyzers, the lab performs routine tests such as complete blood counts, urinalyses, toxicology screens and chemistry profiles. Complex pathology tests like tissue biopsy analysis and bacterial and viral culture also are performed at the lab.
The hospital also maintains a separate STAT lab that serves primarily the emergency department. This lab is utilized for tests that must be performed quickly in lifeand-death situations. Lab tests that are not as critical are batched together for testing in the main clinical laboratory.
“Fauquier Hospital exists to meet the needs of this community,” said Rodger Baker, Fauquier Hospital’s President/CEO. “Part of our mission is to make sure the most up-to-date technology is available for the people of Fauquier County and the surrounding areas. We don’t do cardiac bypass surgeries and bone marrow transplants, but we can offer almost everything a larger hospital can provide, and we offer it close to home.”
Tours and demonstrations of Fauquier Hospital’s high-tech diagnostic and treatment capabilities will be offered during the hospital’s annual “Alive and Kicking” free Health Fair, Saturday, September 30 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the hospital. The fair also will feature over a dozen free health screenings.
