At the snow-delayed March session of the Rappahannock County School Board meeting held Tuesday night, School Board President Dr. John Tole moved to reappoint school Superintendent Dr. David Gangel to a new four year term. Citing Dr. Gangel’s leadership and impressive record of school system improvements over the past twelve years, Dr. Ible led the board in a unanimous vote that provides the superintendent his post through June 30, 2003.
The reappointment vote came near the end of a three and one-half hour session that opened with additional discussions of the school budget for the 1999-2000 school year. In his presentation of his fourth and apparently final revision of the draft budget, Dr Gangel highlighted the only substantive change to the budget from the third revision (see story page A3)- the addition of nearly $3000 to provide for ‘no loss’ for the twenty school employees whose pay would have been reduced by transitional peculiarities in the new salary schedule. This one-time funding will eliminate any inequities in pay rate changes for the new and future budget years.
