The date for a preliminary hearing for accused murderer Joseph Johnson, of the Scrabble area, has been set for May 4, according to Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz.

Johnson, 41, has been charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony in the March 3 shooting of Willie Steve Nichols, 28, of Boston.

Johnson is alleged to have shot Nichols during a dispute over money. The incident occurred in the front yard of Johnson’s home oh Route 522, near the Rappahannock-Culpeper county line.

Johnson was returned to Rappahannock County on March 10 for arraignment.

He is being currently held without bond at the Fauquier County Detention Center in Warrenton.
