CELLULAR/PCS SERVICE

TELECOMMUNICATIONS TOWERS

The Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors and the Rappahannock County Planning Commission are hosting a Public Forum on the subject of the possible expansion of Cellular Telephone/Personal Communications Systems (PCS) service in Rappahannock County, and the possibility of and need for the construction of towers to transmit and relay such signals.

Representatives from the telecommunications industry will be on hand to discuss their industries’ capabilities and the infrastructure necessary to support their services. Issues such as the number, height, and location of towers will be discussed.

The Board and Commission hope that this forum will lead eventually to the adoption of a new set of regulations within the Rappahannock County Code, in compliance with the Telecommunications Act of 1996, governing the placement of telecommunications facilities.

The public is invited to attend to express their interests and concerns. Of particular interest to the Board and Commission is the level of public interest in having cellular telephone/PCS services available and the public’s concern about the construction of telecommunications towers.

The meeting will be held at the Rappahannock County High School Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 1999.
