I try to stock up on lightweight, loose fitting longsleeve shirts. These will shade my skin and reduce the loss of perspiration, which speeds dehydration.

Protection from the sun is especially important for those of us who take any medications such as antihistamines, antibiotics, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that increase sensitivity to sun exposure. All medications should be checked for warnings about sun exposure.

Of course, I need a supply of sun screen, which certainly helps protect the skin but it is not a cure-all. For one thing, I do not like how it feels or smells. In addition, as perspiration removes the screen, I sometimes neglect to replace it. So hats and shirts are my main line of defense. People using sun screen often think that they are completely protected and spend much more time in the full sun than they otherwise would, thus creating skin problems.
