Bumble bees have stepped up to fill a niche left vacant by the now carefully managed honey bee, but the bumble bee is a poor substitute.

In addition to being difficult to manage, Harman noted that a large bumble bee colony has 50-150 bees, while a honey bee colony population can exceed 60,000.
