The Rappahannock County Planning Commission met at the courthouse on Nov. 17 to review four applications for approval.
The commission denied Elizabeth Lee-Harris’s application to rezone a 36.4-acre plot of land from agricultural to rural residential, with the intent to subdivide the property into five different plots of land in Sperryville.
The commission decided to pass to the Board of Zoning Appeals the application from Harmon Lee and Joan F. Dyer to build a family apartment on their property in the Peyton Farms division of Washington.
In other incidents, the commission approved Kevin Day’s application to convert an existing dwelling for use as a real estate office. Harris’ application was denied due to the fact that the change would be from an agricultural zone to a rural residential zone and would occur in an area that current residents and the planning commission want to remain an agricultural zone.
The change could potentially open up an area to development that is not directly adjacent to U.S. 211 nor the village of Sperryville.
Neighbors Nan Reddick, Barbara Adolfi, and Lisa Dodson opposed the application at the meeting.
