Leonard moved to Warrenton in 1976. She had had enough of the city. She discovered this area due to helping a friend paint a house in Rappahannock County.
Leonard owned a sign and calligraphy business in Warrenton from 1978 to 1981. Then she opened a business on Route 231, but closed it when she became pregnant with the first of her three daughters.
Busy with raising a family, Leonard did not reenter the art business until three years ago, when she started to do signs again. Her father had passed away and she needed to keep busy.
