Nancy Newlin of the Registrar comments that this year’s election had more writeins than ever before. She thinks the reason is that this year the ballot had a separate line for writing in candidates. In the past, if a voter wanted to write in a candidate, they were provided no designated space for the purpose.
Newlin reports she received “lots of calls to check on the system and make sure they got recorded.” The biggest write-in candidate was Kim Breeden for School Board in the Jackson District. She received 132 votes.
