There are many tradesmen in the county who are skilled and willing to do small jobs for the homeowner. Some are licensed and insured. Some advertise. Some have regular customers and don’t want their names given out. Most are busy. “Swamped” is the word often used to describe how busy they are.
As the search begins for a home improvement contractor, the first thing to do is ask the neighbors. Get several recommendations and ask neighbors.
The local builders are excellent sources. Often a builder has used someone as a sub-contractor and can be confident in making the recommendation.
Once some names have been collected as possibilities for that small job, get references. Get more than one or two references and call those references. And when you do find someone whose work pleases you, tell your neighbors.
