and we cut down locust trees to help feed the cattle during summer.
You could not buy hay as there was none for sale, but we were able to buy some cotton seed hulls that were shipped in from the south to feed the cattle during the drought until we could find a market for them. It was hard to sell livestock at that time and, if you could find a buyer, cattle would only bring three or four cents per pound.
