Carolyn Roth’s current work will be on display for the month of September at the Packing Shed Gallery in Washington. Ms. Roth lived and taught in Rappahannock County thirty years ago. Though now a Maryland resident, she and her husband own a second home in Huntly and hope one day to again make Rappahannock their primary residence.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., she graduated from the University of Michigan and earned a Masters degree at UVA. In the fifteen years of continuous work as an artist, she has experimented with different media including watercolor, acrylic, collage, cut and woven paper, photo transfers, mono prints, fabric, wood boxes, and whatever medium has attracted her curiosity.
Her current work, which is primarily oil on canvas, explores the texture and temperature of color. The progression of this series can be seen from simple oil on canvas to three dimensional pieces that employ canvas sewed to canvas to work that is developed through multiple layers of paint and found
