I fear they are a limited breed. There may be a limit to how much antagonism they can take and avoid bitterness. Only so many false portrayals of a local bank as being a huge pan-continental corporation (in reality, the holding company that keeps Rappahannock National Bank liquid to federal standards operates only in Virginia, specializes in small hometown banks and exerts no immediate control over the lending decisions of RNB, which boasts many local directors—in other words, your neighbors!). Only so many portrayals of an incomparable restaurant that contributes to the beauty (ref: Walter Day’s fine letter, 08/07/02) and tax base of the county as being only slightly up the goodness scale from Dr. Evil. Only so many public statements against something like the Sunnyside Institute.
