Long View Gallery in Sperryville is offering a great way to beat the August heat! The gallery is exhibiting the work of area artists, William H. Whiting and Don Black from Aug. 22 through Sept. 18. There will be a reception for the artists featuring live jazz by guitarist Rick Whitehead and refreshments on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
William H. Whiting paints the lyrical beauty, gentle colors and soft sunlight of the Blue Ridge Mountains with an impressionist’s use of color, light, and space to evoke moods of stillness and serenity. Whiting is a resident of Stephens City, owner of Jubilee Gallery in Winchester and an artist since he was a teenager over thirty years ago.
Don Black’s focus is on abstract formal design, with a sensibility for mood and light, in a style that utilizes the flowing qualities of watercolors and acryhcs. Hints of landscape ori‘ gins often provide the viewer with an entry point into these fascinating paintings. Black is the former conductor of the Shenandoah University Symphony Orchestra where he still teaches music. He is also a professional jazz clarinetist.
Rick Whithead is one of the regions finest jazz guitarists, often playing at openings at the Corcoran and other renowned galleries. He is also teaches music at Shenandoah University. Don Black will bring his clarinet and join Whitehead as time allows.
