DrumLine had
successful session
The Rappahannock County School Drum Line participated in an event held in Stephens City on July 20. Josh McArthur once more played the quads, Brian Taylor held the snare position, Anthony Clinedinst, Samantha Brown, and Brian Lee held base drum parts, and Phil Thomas played cymbals. The Banner Team consisted of Ginger Dennis and Jessica Estes. The drummers drew quite a response from the crowd with lots of applause and praise. A very special thank-you to our new Principal Roger Mello for showing his support of the band by attending this event.
After their competition, they were asked to play cadences for the majorette competition. Then, as tired as they were, the crowd asked them to play during the impromptu parade held after the festivities. What an honor for our drumline!
They placed first in their division for the competition and also received the “Appreciation” trophy, given to them by the majorettes for playing on such a short notice request for them.
On Aug. 1 the drumline marched in the Brandy Station parade. This was the first year for Rappahannock County in this parade and this author wants to add one parent (not a Rappahannock County parent) made a very impressive comment about our drumline to her. It was a very tough competition with 6 drum lines present and one drum line hailing from a double A high school (turning triple A this year!). The drummers were able to chat about equipment, etc. with the other drumlines present, and even recognized one fellow drummer from this summer’s JMU Drum Camp!
The Drum Line finished their summer competition /parade season with a total of seven trophies; four first place, two second place, and one special recognition trophy. Way to go drumline!!

Band Camp

JMU Band Camp was an amazing experience as always. This year was even better than last year. I was in the top drumline this year at JMU and the other drumline members (first time at JMU for them) made second highest drumline!
The other four that went were Anthony Clinedinst, Samatha Brown, Ben Verrill, and last but certainly not least, Mathew Swain. I believe they all had a wonderful time too. This year the staff of JMU portrayed an amazing wealth of knowledge to everyone.
We had four instructors; three of which actually have played and are still playing in the JMU drumline. The last instructor was John Pollard
