“According to a recent state report, Virginia has had to return approximately $56 million in unspent child insurance funds to the federal government since 2000. That is fiscally wrong, and it is morally wrong.”
The first of these bills (HB 1062) requires that the Department of Medical Services (DMAS) start using the school lunch program and the Women, Infant, Children (WIC) program to help determine additional children who might be eligible for FAMIS.
In Rappahannock part of that outreach program will begin at the elementary school on the first day of school when a yellow flyer with information about FAMIS will be included in the back-to-school packets.
There is currently information on FAMIS as well as application forms at the Department of Social Services on Gay Street in Washington.
