Quilting group forming
The Rappahannock Quilting group will start their new season on Sept. 10. The group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. at the Rappahannock Library on US 211.
The season is September through May. This season will begin by making a Log Cabin block and quilting it. Whether you have quilted before or would like to learn to quilt, all are welcome to join. For more information contact Charlotte Laing at 937-3511.
Clinic will be open Sept. 4
The Rappahannock Free Clinic, a local operation of the Fauquier Free Clinic Inc., is currently open on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month. The clinic will be open Wednesday, Sept. 4 and not again until Sept. 18. Patient registration is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Rappahannock Public Health Department Building. Health programs available
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board invites persons 60 years of age and older to participate in the following health promotion/screening programs to be held at the Rappahannock Senior Nutrition Center:
On Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. there will be a blood pressure and blood sugar screening by Melinda Beach, Public Health Nurse. On Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. a Medicare Part B program will be given by Daivon Bruce.

Demolition Derby set
Applications are now being accepted for the Demolition Derby to be held Saturday. Aug. 24 during the Page Fair in Luray and Rappahannock residents are encouraged to participate. Cars may include any American made stock, hardtop automobile or station wagon. Official entry blanks are available by calling 743-4949. The fair is currently underway and will continue through Aug. 24.
Annual meeting scheduled
Southern States Front Royal Cooperative will hold its annual membership meeting on Friday, Aug. 30 at Bowling Green Country Club — North, 838 Bowling Green Road. Front Royal beginning at 7:45 p.m. With the theme "Growing Solutions Since 1923," the meeting will include reports on both local and company-wide operations, as well as the election of local board members. Rappahannock farmers are encouraged to attend.
Food sanitation course planned
The 2002 Fall Food Sanitation Certification course has been scheduled. The course and ServSafe Essentials textbook utilize the new 2001 Model Food Code from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The course will be offered in Warrenton at the Fauquier Extension office. 24 Pelham Street, Sept. 9 and 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The pre-registered cost is $104 per person.
