Ray Gooch asked that the Council help the Ladies’ Auxiliary find a permanent location—he noted that they were currently housed temporarily in the Fire Hall—and that their “remarkable service” to the community should be recognized by such an effort. Vice Mayor Steve Critzer said that the Fire Department was planning on building a new facility, and that they may put up another building for the permanent use of the Ladies’ Aiudliary.
Diane Bruce asked that the community and Council come up with suggestions for the relocation of the Post Office. She said that she understood that their lease was coming to an end, and that she was concerned that they would leave Tbwn like the bank is planning on doing. The Mayor said that he shared the concern, and suggested some alternatives. The Council will look further into the status of the Post Office lease.
Treasurer’s report
Treasurer Jerry Goebel reported on the Tbwn’s finances, noting consolidated assets of $710,121.45, up some $35,000 from that noted in July, and water works assets of $19,165.60 through the close of the July reporting period.
Other activities
• The Mayor asked the Council for their opinions with regard to a letter to be sent to The Inn to encourage them to take certain steps to ameliorate the problems of congestion and parking in the vicinity of their facilities. Mayor Willis first asked Mr. Lynch for his thoughts, but he objected to the question for its inappropriateness and said that he does not represent The Inn while on the Council, but represents all of the residents of the 'Ibwn. After discussion by the Council and comments from members of the audience, the Council agreed with Council member Claudia Mitchell’s suggestion that no business be singled out and that a letter be sent out to all businesses encouraging the proper parking of delivery vehicles.
• Mayor Willis reported that the new Zoriing Ordinance is still before the Planning Commission, and no action was taken on it by the Tbwn Council.
• The Mayor received Council approval for the assignment of FY 2002 retained earnings to the general fund, less the cost of four repairs rolled over from last year.
• The Council okayed the placement of Avon Hall property and contents on the Tbwn’s insurance policy.
