That bloom of blue on spiky stalks so reminiscent of childhood walks, and bending down to pick a few.. (some call them weeds which I find untrue). My fingers always met with such resistance They just didn’t want to be picked! They completely ignored my childhood instance (of course I always forgot to make the notation - and each summer they renewed their un cooperation). Thus every attempt to dismember a bloom would cause me to anger and then just to fume! They just didn’t want to be picked! All I wanted, was to fill a jar with those periwinkle blooms I saw from afar... To bring a little smile to my Mom.. It seems this year there’s even more than ever., whole fields are covered, (they think they’re so clever) All I would need is a sharp pair of scissors which would cure their resistance for ever! Of all the roadside’s summer dressing, and the fields and empty lots too., there’s nothing my memory finds quite the blessing, like those weeds of periwinkle blue. Cynthia Stamps Woodville
