Special Education. This will be her fourth year as a Special Ed teacher. Her wish is that were “not any disabilities — learning or otherwise ”

Sunshine Keeney received her B.S. from Eastern Mennonite University and was two years in the Page County schools as the preschool family services worker. She said, “I wish that I had the wisdom of a retired teacher and the energy of a first grader.”

The aides joining the team at the Elementary school this year are Maretta Verrill, Barbara Sisk and Kim Vest.

Maretta Verrill has been a substitute teacher in the Rappahannock schools for several years. “I’m just really excited about the school year and wish success for all.”

Barbara Sisk is the new library aide. She’s been a substitute teacher but most of her life,, she’s been in customer service. She said, “I'm looking forward to pleasing some new little customers,” and added that her goal was to help make the library such a pleasant experience that the children would look forward to coming back each week.

Margo Caldwell will serve as Speech Pathologist for both the elementary school and the high school. She holds a B.A. from Allegheny College and a M.Ed from the University of Virginia. She’s been in the schools for 19 years and in private practice for three years. Her simple wish is for “each day to get a little better.”

Roger Mello, the new Principal for Rappahannock County High School, has been focussing hard on the immediate issues of getting the school year started and the newcomers (himself included) on board. He did share several wishes. He said he wished “to create an environment where some of these enthusiastic and excited people we have are able to take off.” An immediate goal of his is to get to know all 450 students by name, and as a more long term goal: “I want Rappahannock to be proud of us and our children to be proud of being from here.”

Mr. Mello holds both a B.A. and M.Ed from the University of Virginia.
