Warner, 37, was found shot in the head and hung from an electrical cord in the basement of her Reva home, which had been set on fire, on Dec. 18, 2005.
Warner worked as a receptionist for a local Culpeper attorney, and several years ago performed a similar function for Rappahannock attorney Douglas Baumgardner.
When the judge asked if Gray had any income for which to pay an attorney to represent him on these charges, he nonchalantly replied, “No, sir, I’m currently on death row.”
Attorney Kevin Smith of Fairfax was then appointed to represent the convicted murderer and a second date for arraignment was set.
In October 2006, Gray was convicted for murdering seven members of two Richmond families and was sentenced to death. Like the Warner case, the homes of both families had been robbed and the victims found bound and slain.
