People opposed to the proposed power towers cutting a swath across Fauquier County will have a chance to do some “drinking, dancing and making merriment” while raising money to fight the towers.
“We’re calling it ... an old-fashioned block party,” said organizer Lynn Wiley. “The purpose of the event is to rally the homeowners in the area.”
The event will be on Feb. 17 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $100 per person, and Big Ray and the Kool Kats will perform. Dress is casual. There will be a silent auction for jewelry, trips, paintings and dinners.
“This band is so good that it just played for Bill Gates’ New Year’s Eve party,” Wiley stated.
“This is not an exclusive party by any means,” Wiley continued. “We want eveiybody to come, enjoy themselves and learn about what the power lines are going to do to this area. The money from this will go to organizations fighting the lines.”
Actor and local resident Robert Duvall is very much opposed to the power lines, though they will not be placed over his property. He and his wife Luciana have pledged to host a cocktail party at their farm in The Plains for the first four tables of 10 that are purchased.
