Erin Pearson and her husband, Marvin, of Castleton, Va., remember the incident well. “It took about two hours for them to load her,” remembered Marvin, “A large crowd of people gathered around to watch and everybody was applauding when she was finally in the trailer." Erin Pearson, however, was too excited about her own recently adopted mustang to pay much attention. “We just went to window shop,” she insisted, “we had no intention of buying a horse.” Toward the end of the day, however, Pearson’s heart went out to a smaller, wilder horse that nobody wanted. “Everybody thought we were crazy to buy that horse,” said Marvin. “They thought we were asking for trouble.”
