The birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jlr. will be celebrated this Sunday at The Theatre in Little Washington. As it has in the past, _ a group of local Rappahannock-area citizens have come together once again to honor the memory of America’s premier civil rights leader. It always is a rousing and inspirational afternoon with exceptional singing, stirring speeches, and good community camaraderie.
This year’s keynote address will be given by Lt. Col. Howard Baugh, a World War II veteran who promises to give a fascinating account of his experience as a member of the famed “Tuskegee Airmen.” Col. Baugh now lives in Petersburg, VA.
It should be noted that these courageous black airmen enlisted in the armed forces when segregation was the order of the day, requiring them to fight two wars—one against a military force overseas and the other against racism at home and abroad.
