Officials organized a search once they learned that Leger’s wife had reported him missing.

“We now know that he entered the park alone at about 10 p.m. (Jan. 1),” park spokeswoman Julena Campbell explained on Thursday.

Searchers apparently knew that Leger was an experienced hiker who was familiar with the area.

On Thursday, Campbell said officials learned that Leger has had “some signs” of depression in the past. There was no suicide note or any other evidence in the car that Leger intended to harm him
