As the Virginia General Assembly will soon be considering proposed legislation which would virtually mandate substantial development of wind energy in the state, Miller feels it is important for Virginians to fully understand the impacts of wind power.
While wind energy is seen by many as a “green” alternative, there are also unintended consequences of wind power development, including known impacts of large windmills on bat populations and threats posed to bird and bat migration patterns. Miller, who holds a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary. Studies with a focus in Environmental Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University, will discuss the research documenting those issues as well as the use of wind as a means of offsetting coal-fueled power.
