Students . returned to Wakefield Country Day School and attended the assembly which featured a panel of recent graduates.
The college panel included Caitlin Hammelman, 2006, Mary Washington University; Rachel Marx, 2005, James Madison University; James Nilan, 2005, Virginia Tech; Allison Russo, 2006, University of Virginia; and Alec Tbth, 2005, University of Virginia. The WCDS graduates took turns describing their universities, discussing their experiences, and advising their younger classmates. Here are some of the points they made:
• “We were really well prepared in critical reading and writing (all affirmed)”.
• “Advanced placement courses really help you. You not only experience college level work, but you also earn college credits. The credits let you take more advanced courses and determine when you get to register for classes.”
• “I learned to multi-task while at WCDS and this really helped. You really need good tune management, especially in a dorm when all sorts of things are going on around you and you need to schedule hours for yourself to study.”
• “I found I was very competitive in all classes; in many I already knew much of the material.”
• “The honor system really prepared me for UVA. There, if you cheat you’re out. I came in used to the idea that cheating is wrong and has severe consequences. I think it’s great the
