With everyone in town participating in the preparations for Sperryville’s Spring Festival, and everyone including the weatherman - at least the long-rang forecaster - cooperating, a beautiful weekend seems assured to celebrate spring in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
On both Saturday and Sunday, the festival will open at 10 a.m. and there will be plenty do to until closing at 6 p.m. each day.
“I’m telling everyone rain or shine, but the forecast is for a good weekend,” said Cheri Woodard, president of the Sperryville Business Council, which sponsors the festival. “It’s going to be the biggest and best ever!” she added.
The festival promises to offer entertainment, sales, food and drink and just plain relaxation for visitors to “The Little Apple.” From Country Manor down Rt. 211 into town, and on every street in town, merchants, civic organizations and the town’s residents are planning to usher in the summer with a special celebration.
As has become a tradition at Sperryville’s festivals, there will be no admission charges to any of the events during the weekend.
Country Manor will have a tent sale in the parking lot Saturday and Sunday, apple butter demonstrations by Roy Pullen, as well as basketmaking and other crafts demonstrations throughout the weekend.
Parkway Gift Shop and That Sperryville Emporium will be offering a selection of local crafts. There will be a country auction at the Emporium at 2 p.m. Saturday, and the Sperryville Rescue Squad will be cooking both days in the parking lot.
Country Elegance, Chipmunk Hollow and the House of Dried Flowers, all on Rt. 211 West, will all be celebrating the weekend with open houses and special items.
“Old Way” Crafts Village, also located on Rt. 211 west of town, will have demonstrations by William M. Moran-Luthier, violin maker, as well as pottery by Maggie Rogers and stained glass by Patti Mullans. Refresh
