Mr. McCarthy said that the job was advertised for several weeks in a number of area newspapers, including the Rappahannock News, the Northern Virginia Daily, the Culpeper Star-Exponent and theCulpeper News, and The Fauquier Democrat.
Mr. McCarthy said that Mr. Harrison was chosen for the $13,500 a year part-time position over three other applicants. He said that he had “quite a number” of telephone inquiries, but most declined to apply when informed of a stipulation adopted by the Board of Supervisors.
